ATLANTA, Ga. (August 2, 2023) – Atlanta Dream head coach Tanisha Wright was named the WNBA Coach of the Month for July 2023, the league announced today.
Wright led the Dream to an 8-3 record in the month of July, starting the month off with six straight wins – including a record-setting 112 points in a win over Los Angeles on July 2. Entering the month 6-8, Wright led the team to critical wins that put them back over .500 and up as high as fourth in the WNBA standings.
Her first Coach of the Month honor makes her just the second Atlanta Dream coach to earn the recognition since the award was instituted in 2017.
She took a previously 8-win Dream team to 14 wins in her first season (their most in five years), earning her the Associated Press Coach of the Year honor. In Wright’s second season the Dream have already tallied 14 wins – doing it in only 25 games – and are on track to make the WNBA Playoffs for the first time since 2018.
